All content uploaded to Mediaspace will default to a setting of Private, unless the owner of that media chooses to change it's publishing status. Users who choose to share their content have their choice of the following options:

  • Private - Media content will ONLY be visible to the content owner (Presumably you).

  • Unlisted - Anyone with the link (generates a URL) will be able to view your content.

After media has finished uploading, an option to share your content with "collaborators" will appear within the Edit menu below the Player in the media page. Using this method will allow you to share your content with specific activated users within Mediaspace, and then become available within their My Media library, along with special assigned permissions. Those permissions include:

  • Co - Viewers - Collaborators will see the content appear in their My Media library.
  • Co - Editors - Collaborators will see, AND be able to edit and change the content's information including title, description, and tag information, as well as advanced editing functions.
  • Co - Publishers - Collaborators can distribute the content in additional ways including adding content to alternative Moodle courses, external websites or blogs, and other platforms other than Mediaspace.

CONTENT EDITING & STITCHING

VIDEO QUIZZES

You may find the need to "clean-up" your media, and users have a few options to do so.

Mediaspace has an online media editor available, using the Launch Editor feature on the individual media page. This editor allows for VERY basic editing functions like trimming, splitting, and clipping. You can read about using this feature, in the following article: Basic Editing in Mediaspace

VIDEO EDITING APPS

Mac Users also have a similar basic editor available within their Applications folder in Quicktime Player. Quicktime Player includes the added benefit of appending video clips to merge multiple videos into 1 single video. You can review help articles below:

Windows Users can use a similiar tool within the Photos app of Windows 10, or by downloading the dedicated Video Editor. You can learn more about how to edit video content in the app, here: Create films with Video Editor

Linux Users might explore options with OpenShot or Shotcut.

Mac users also have access to iMovie for more robust video editing. iMovie is unfortunately a mac-only application, however it's available for free within the App Store or through the iOS app store. iMovie is also available in several mac labs on campus.

Windows users looking for a comparable video editor should look at Adobe Premiere Rush CC. Adobe Rush is available as both a desktop and mobile application, which works on both Android and iOS devices. Faculty and Staff can find install instructions for all Adobe products here.

For advanced video editing, we offer Final Cut Pro X in our Digital Video Editing Lab, as well as Adobe Premiere Pro.
