How do I add a recorded lecture (or other Mediaspace video file) to my Moodle Course?

In a related article, we described how to use Kaltura Capture to record lectures for later use within Moodle.  This article will explain how to add those recordings - or any of your "My Media" videos - into a Moodle course.

  1. Go to Moodle at https://moodle.bucknell.edu, and click on the link for your course in the "Current Course List" module on the right-hand side of the screen.

  2. If the Edit Mode is currently off, click on the "Turn editing on" button at the top-right corner of your window to allow you to make changes to the course content:

  3. Once you decide which topic area in your course will contain the video, move your mouse to the bottom-right corner of that topic block, and click on the “Add an activity or resource” link:

Add an activity or resource link

  4. Among the list of possible Activities and Resources (arranged in alphabetical order), scroll down until you find the button for Kaltura Video Resource, and click on that button:

    Add Kaltura Video Resource

  5. Type in the name of the video (in the Name field), and click on the "Add Media" button:

    Add video by name

  6. Moodle will open a pop-up window and connection to our Kaltura video library. (It could take a bit of time for that window to load, since we have such an extensive video collection.) The collection that appears by default is your "My Media" collection, which contains all the videos that you have personally recorded and uploaded to Mediaspace.  You can scroll down to find the video recording that you want to add to your course, or you can type the name of your video into the small search box near the top of the page, and click on the magnifying glass icon to search for that video:

    Search for video

  7. When Kaltura finds your video, click on the Embed button on the right-hand side to select that video:

    Choose large player

  8. Moodle will close that pop-up window, and an image of the video (along with player controls) will appear in the Video section of your “Adding a new Kaltura Video Resource” dialog box. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on the "Save and return to course" button to save your changes.

  9. The video will now appear as a link in the topic area where you added it, and students can click on the link to watch the video:

Link to video in Moodle course
