Bucknell University offers several options for transcription including Read&Write Gold, Kaltura/Mediaspace, and Zoom.
Read&Write for Chrome
Read&Write is literacy software that is useful for those who would like assistance reading, writing, taking notes, doing research, or working in a second language. Bucknell has a site license that allows all faculty, staff, and students to use Read&Write in the Google Chrome web browser.
Read&Write includes the following tools:
- Text-to-speech: Read&Write will read a web page out loud so the client can hear a written document.
- Check It: Read&Write will check your grammar and spelling to help evaluate your writing.
- Talk&Type: Read&Write will record your spoken language into a written document.

Kaltura/Mediaspace
Kaltura and Mediaspace are references to an online media-streaming server that hosts Video / Audio / and Image content within the Bucknell domain. Mediaspace is our web interface, and Kaltura is the parent company of Mediaspace. Kaltura / Mediaspace are available to all Bucknell users: Students, Faculty and Staff.
Why Should I Use Mediaspace?
Key functions of Mediaspace include firewall protection, user authentication, and registered safeguards of protecting sensitive information within a protected domain.
These measures ensure that our multimedia content meets proper academic standards for student privacy and protection.
In addition to security and privacy, Mediaspace is also integrated with Moodle, includes unlimited media storage and bandwidth for streaming, and allows the creation of Video Quizzes, and Dynamic View options for digital presentations.

How to use transcription in Mediaspace?
First, you can upload your video to Mediaspace and create a transcript. If you are unfamiliar with Mediaspace, here is how you upload a file.
Once the video is uploaded into Mediaspace, you can create captions which will also allow you to download a plain-text version of the captioning. Here are the instructions for that.
Zoom Live Transcription
Zoom now supports live transcription for Zoom meetings. This tool will transcribe your meetings after your turn the setting on in Zoom.
