Verizon Aircard Borrow FAQ

Who can borrow a Verizon AirCard?

Faculty and staff can borrow the Verizon aircard from the equipment desk.

What can I use the Verizon AirCard for?

Verizon aircards can be used for work purposes only which include travel. For work-from-home options, please review the BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY STAFF REMOTE WORK GUIDELINES

It's important to review Bucknell's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) on usage.

Do I need a Verizon AirCard?

If you are traveling and have reliable secure internet or have reliable unsecured internet, then an aircard is not necessary. Use the VPN for unsecured internet like a coffee shop.

If you have unreliable internet but the location has Verizon coverage, then an aircard can be borrowed. If there is no Verizon coverage in the area the Verizon aircard will not work. It is important to check the provider coverage as roaming charges could be incurred. Also, review the borrow agreement below.

Verizon AirCard Borrow Agreement

When traveling, it's best to use WiFi with the Bucknell VPN instead of a Verizon air card. While the Equipment Desk can provide you with a summary of costs, traveling internationally with a Verizon air card could incur higher costs very quickly. As a BORROWER, you must agree to all the costs incurred during your reservation period to request a Verizon air card. Being mindful of the messages displayed on your device is crucial to avoid exceeding the air card limit and incurring significant expenses.

Note: Verizon air cards cannot be used as work-from-home devices. If you have extenuating circumstances, please contact the equipment desk at equipdsk@bucknell.edu.

Is there a charge to borrow a Verizon AirCard?

In most cases, there will be no charge for borrowing a Verizon aircard, but charges could apply if using aircards internationally. If there is a roaming charge incurred while on travel, charges will be charged to your department. It's easy to incur large roaming charges, so please review the possible charges before borrowing an aircard for international travel. Being mindful of the messages displayed on your device is crucial to avoid exceeding the air card limit and incurring significant expenses.
