It is important to keep the applications on your Bucknell-managed Mac up to date. This also includes your Mac operating system.
Major macOS upgrades are typically released in early fall from Apple, but there are incremental updates throughout the year that are to your advantage to keep up with – the benefits being stability, security, and keeping abreast with the latest macOS features.
We now have the ability to help manage the process for you, allowing you flexibility to determine when the updates and upgrades are installed.
How long can I defer updating?
We will set a policy of 14 days; we may extend it when macOS is released this fall to ensure that everyone has time to make sure their software is compatible with the new version of the OS.

What if I need a given system to not upgrade?
Contact Tech Support; they can exclude you from having to run the upgrade. You will still need to keep the current version of your OS up to date.
Are the labs upgrading?
Labs are typically upgraded over the summer. We do not have any plans to change this.
What do I do if I’m concerned that a popup I’m seeing about upgrading may not be legitimate?
Being suspicious of unexpected pop-up messages is entirely reasonable! If you have doubts about a message, you can always go to Systems Settings -> General -> Software Update and run the update that way, which ensures you're communication directly with Apple.
