How long can I defer updating?
For the initial rollout, we are setting a deadline of June 1st so as to not to cause conflicts with finals or Commencement. After that, we will set a policy of 14 days; we may extend it when macOS is released this fall to ensure that everyone has time to make sure their software is compatible with the new version of the OS.
What if I need a given system to not upgrade?
Contact Tech Support; they can exclude you from having to run the upgrade. You will still need to keep the current version of your OS up to date.
Are the labs upgrading?
Labs are typically upgraded over the summer, We do not have any plans to change this.
What do I do if I’m concerned that a popup I’m seeing about upgrading may not be legitimate?
Being suspicious of unexpected pop-up messages is entirely reasonable! If you have doubts about a message, you can always go to Systems Settings -> General -> Software Update and run the update that way, which ensures you're communication directly with Apple.
