We have used the CLAMPMail block (link opens in new window) as the way to email students from a Moodle course for as long as we have used Moodle. CLAMPMail is an offshoot of the built-in Quickmail block, which is the default method of emailing students via Moodle. You can use the Quickmail block to email all or a selected group of your students. Because the Quickmail block isn't part of our standard course structure, you will have to add the block first to your Moodle course, and then you can use its email functionality as follows:
- Log in to https://moodle.bucknell.edu, and click on the link for your course within the Current Course List on the right-hand side of the main Moodle page.
- Turn editing on for your course by clicking on the "Turn editing on" button at the top-right corner of your Moodle page:

- Scroll down to the very bottom-right corner of the Moodle page, until you see the "Add a block" menu. Click on the "Add" drop-down link, and find Quickmail in the alphabetical list of available blocks. Click on that Quickmail link:

- You should now you see the “Quickmail” block among the various blocks on the right-hand side of your course Moodle page. Click on the “Compose Course Message” link within that block:

-
QuickMail uses a drop-down menu to select the recipients of your message. In the "To" area, just under "No included recipients," click on the "Who should receive this message?" drop-down. You can choose all students or users in a particular group, but if you want to send the email message to all users in the course, click on "All in course":

-
"All in Course" will now appear in the "To" field. Click elsewhere in the window to clear the selection box.
-
Scroll down to compose the email message, adding a Subject header and your message text in the appropriate boxes:

-
If you want to receive an email confirmation when the messages get sent, scroll down to the "Receive a send report" section, and select "Yes."
-
Click on the "Send Message" button to finalize your email and send it out to your selected recipients:
