PLEASE READ: It is recommended you install the Duo Mobile app and follow the instructions below to set up the Duo Mobile app. To install the Duo mobile app, your phone must have iOS version 15 or higher or Android version 11 or higher. If your app says your Duo is disabled, please try the instructions below.
Overview
If you received a new phone or your app is disabled and asking for a QR code from ID you will need to activate the duo mobile app.
Instructions for Faculty (current, retired) or Staff (current)
To setup your new device or to reactivate the duo mobile app, you will need to authenticate to do so. Please choose from the following scenarios that accurately describe your current situation:
Activate Duo using DuoSOS
To activate the Duo Mobile app using DuoSOS, please follow the steps below. Note: You will need your Bucknell ID card or know your proxy to use DuoSOS.
- Download and install the Duo Mobile app from your device app store if you do not already have Duo Mobile installed.
- Open a browser and go to a page like my.bucknell.edu or mail.bucknell.edu. You'll be prompted for your username and password.
- If you're already logged in to one of these services, switch to a different browser (Edge, Chrome, Safari, Firefox) or use an incognito/private browser.

When Duo tries to authenticate, select Other Options

Select Manage Devices

In a new tab, go to duosos.bucknell.edu

Log in with your Bucknell username, password, date of birth, and BUID. Note: you will need your Bucknell ID to get a code.

Copy the code and go back to the Duo Security tab/screen

You will need to verify yourself. Select Bypass code.

Paste the Duo SOS Bypass code in the bypass code field box and select Verify.

Once verified, you will see a list of devices on your Duo account. Select Add a device.

Select Duo Mobile

Enter your new phone number in the Phone number field

Verify your number is correct and select Yes, it's correct

- Download the Duo Mobile App and select Next

The next step will vary depending on what device you started the reactivation process on.
Activate Duo Mobile on a new phone when the push is going to your older device
To activate the Duo Mobile app on your new phone when the push is going to your older device that you still have access to, please follow the instructions below. Note: you will need your old phone to activate your new phone.
- On your new smartphone, download and install the Duo Mobile app from your device app store. If you already have Duo Mobile installed, you can skip the installation step.
- Open a browser and go to a page like my.bucknell.edu or mail.bucknell.edu. You'll be prompted for your username and password.
- If you're already logged in to one of these services, switch to a different browser (Edge, Chrome, Safari, Firefox) or use an incognito/private browser.

When Duo tries to authenticate, select Other Options

Select Manage Devices

You will need to verify yourself. Select Duo Push.

The push will go to your old Duo device. Accept the push. If the push doesn't come through, try restarting your phone or turning wifi off and back on.

Once verified, you will see a list of devices on your Duo account. Select I have a new phone or Add a device under the device phone number you need to reactivate.
Note: Device type (Android, iPhone, etc.) will update after you reactivate your new smartphone.

Select Get started on the "Let's set up your phone" screen

Download the Duo Mobile App and select Next

Activating Duo Mobile using a Code Generator (Duo not asking for Bypass Code)
To activate Duo Mobile app using a code generator, please follow the instructions below. Note: You will need your code generator to complete these steps
- Download and install the Duo Mobile app from your device app store, if you do not already have Duo Mobile installed.
- Open a browser and go to a page like my.bucknell.edu or mail.bucknell.edu. You'll be prompted for your username and password.
- If you're already logged in to one of these services, switch to a different browser (Edge, Chrome, Safari, Firefox) or use an incognito/private browser.

You will need to verify yourself. Select Hardware Token

Click on the red power button on the code generator to display a one-time passcode.

Enter the code from your code generator in the passcode field box.

Once you are verified, you will see a list of devices on your Duo account. Select I have a new phone under the device phone number you need to reactivate.
Note: Device type (Android, iPhone, etc.) will update after you reactivate your new smartphone.

Select Get started on the "Let's set up your phone" screen

Activating Duo Mobile using a Yubikey
To activate Duo Mobile app using a Yubikey, please follow the instructions below. Note: You will need your YubiKey to complete these instructions.
- Download and install the Duo Mobile app from your device app store, if you do not already have Duo Mobile installed.
- Open a browser and go to a page like my.bucknell.edu or mail.bucknell.edu. You'll be prompted for your username and password.
- If you're already logged in to one of these services, switch to a different browser (Edge, Chrome, Safari, Firefox) or use an incognito/private browser.

When you get the Enter your Passcode screen, insert the Yubikey into your computer and press the Y to auto-generate a passcode into the Enter passcode field.

Once you are verified, you will see a list of devices on your Duo account. Select I have a new phone under the device phone number you need to reactivate.
Note: Device type (Android, iPhone, etc.) will update after you reactivate your new smartphone.

Add your Account to Duo Mobile App
The next step will vary depending on what device you started the reactivation process on.
If you started this process using a computer to do the first 10 steps continue with the steps below
- Switch to your smartphone.
- On your smartphone, open your Duo Mobile App (enable camera if asked).
- If you do not have an account listed click on Add Account (+)

- Click on Use QR code

- Go back to your computer and hold your smartphone up to the screen to scan the QR code.
- When the QR code is successfully scanned you will see an account pop up in Duo Mobile. Save the account.

- Congratulations! You have successfully activated the Duo Mobile App.

- Select Continue

- Save the account

- Congratulations! You have successfully activated the Duo Mobile App.
I am not able to authenticate
If you are Faculty (current, retired) or Staff (current) and are unable to authenticate, the best solution if you need help with Duo during business hours, please stop by the Tech Desk with ID. Otherwise, submit a Tech Ticket. Please provide a description of the problem and provide a mobile number. A staff member will follow up. Note: Information Security requires us to verify identity. You may be asked to send a "security selfie" or provide a photo ID or government-issued ID.
