How do I add a Barnes and Noble First Day Course Materials link to my Moodle course?

Barnes & Noble has a "First Day" program that allows students to gain digital access to course readings right from the start of your course.  The First Day "Course Materials" link is an "External tool" in Moodle.  You can add that link following these instructions:

  1. Log in to Moodle at https://moodle.bucknell.edu, and click on the link for your course in the Current Course List module on the right-hand side of the main Moodle page.
  2. If editing is not yet turned on, click on the "Turn editing on" button at the top-right corner of your course Moodle page:  Turn editing on
  3. Because the link to course readings is something that students will need throughout the semester, we recommend putting the link in the "zero block" at the top of your Moodle course (the block that has the Announcements forum in it).  Click on the "Add an activity or resource" link at the bottom-left corner of that block (or of the block where you want to put the link): Add an activity or resource
  4. Within the grid of activities and resources (in alphabetical order), click on the link for "External tool": External tool
  5. Type something into the "Activity name" field that it makes it clear that students can click on that link to find electronic course materials: for example, "Barnes & Noble Course Materials."
  6. Click on the "Preconfigured tool" drop-down, and select "Barnes and Noble First Day Course Materials" among the alphabetized list of preconfigured tools.
  7. Scroll down and click on the "Save and return to course" button to finalize the addition of the External tool link:  Save and return to course
  8. You will now have a link in your course to those First Day course materials.  It will look something like this (depending on what you typed as the "Activity name"):  Barnes & Noble First Day Course Materials

Please contact DP&S if you have any questions about using Moodle for your course(s).
