How do I create a menu in WordPress?

Menus in WordPress are an easy way to help people navigate your site. If your pages or posts aren't appearing in the navigation of your site, you will need to create or edit a menu to include them.

Always remember to click Save Menu after you make changes to your menu!

Creating and Updating a Menu

To create a menu:

1. In your WordPress site, go to Dashboard > Appearance > Menus
   • If you do not see the Menus option, go to Appearance > Editor and use the block editor to create your menu.
2. In the Menu Name box, give your new menu a name (ex., Main Menu) and then click Create Menu. 
3. Now you can add elements to your menu. On the left side of the screen, you’ll see options to add Pages, Posts, Custom Links, Categories, and Format. Use the arrows to the right of each section to expand and find elements.
4. Click on the checkbox next to an element you would like to add to your menu and click Add to Menu

Reordering a Menu

Once you’ve added items to your menu, you can rearrange the order by dragging and dropping elements. 

You can also make a menu item a sub-item of another menu item by dragging it under the menu item and to the right.

Deleting a Menu Item

You can delete a menu item by clicking on the arrow to the right of the menu item name and then clicking on Remove.

Changing the Display Location

Once your menu is set, be sure to apply it to a location on the site.

1. At the top of the Menus page, click on the tab for Manage Locations.
2. Next to the location you want, select your menu from the drop-down.

Depending on your theme, you may have more than one location for menus.

Save

Always remember to click Save Menu after you make changes.
