How Do I Move a Topic Area in Moodle - the "Click and Move" Method

Moodle allows you to reorder topic blocks by dragging them up and down within the course.  That click-and-drag method can be easy for small courses or for topic blocks that don't have a significant number of items in them.  Using that method, you drag the block you want to move to its new location, letting go of the mouse button when the "ghost image" of that block has reached the desired location.  For larger courses or for topic blocks with a lot of content, Moodle also allows you to move a topic block to another position more simply, by clicking to initiate the block location change and then clicking to tell Moodle where to place the block.  The instructions below explain that process:

  1. Log in to Moodle at https://moodle.bucknell.edu, and click on the link for your course.
  2. Click on the "Turn editing on" button at the top-right corner of the Moodle page: Turn editing on Button
  3. Click on the cross-hairs icon at the top-left corner of the topic area that you want to move:

    Click to Begin Move

  4. Moodle will display a list of all the topic areas currently in your course.  You will want to click on the name of the topic area that will end up below the topic area you are trying to move.  In the example below, I am clicking on the "Lecture Notes" topic area so that the Readings section will end up just above that topic area in the course:

    Click to Change Location

  5. As you can see from the figure just below, the "Readings" topic area is now above "Lecture Notes" and below "Important Documents":
