Troubleshooting Zoom connection issues

Are you running into issue with Zoom with messages like 'internet connection unstable' or having choppy video or audio? Can you sometimes not hear others, or find that others can't hear you? Here are some troubleshooting steps:

  • Make sure you're using your Bucknell Zoom account - if you click on your profile in the top right corner of your Zoom screen, you should see the word Licensed next to your name.
  • Make sure you're running the latest Zoom version.  They often include bug fixes and optimizations that might help. To check for updates in the installed Zoom application, click on your picture in the top right and click on Check for Updates.
  • Make sure you're not running any other app in the background that might "steal" some of your wifi bandwidth. Zoom is a bit of a bandwidth hog, so make sure any other video streaming apps aren't also running.
  • Reboot your laptop.
  • Don't set your camera video to HD. And in the worst case, turn your own camera & mic off so all available bandwidth is used for receiving your instructor's video.
