How do I determine the last time a student visited my course in Moodle?

Summary

This article explains how to see when a student last accessed your Moodle course.

Body

Moodle keeps track of each time a student clicks within a course, saving all of that information in the Moodle logs.  One of the most basic measurements of student engagement in a course is the last time a student visited the course.  Because that information is so crucial, Moodle makes it readily available when you view the Participants list for your course.  Here's how you access that information:

  1. Go to our Moodle server at https://moodle.bucknell.edu
  2. Find your course in the Current Course List module on the right-hand side of the screen, and click on the link for that course.
  3. In the "Course administration" block on the right-hand side of the page, click on Users and then on Enrolled users to see a list of students in your course:

  4. Moodle will list all the people enrolled in the course (in alphabetical order by first name).  The second-to-last column in that table of information shows when each student last accessed your course:

    Student Last Access to Course

  5. If you want to sort the output by the "Last access to course" column, you can click on that "Last access to course" column heading.  Moodle will list the students in descending time order, starting with the student who has been away for the longest time up until the student who visited most recently.
