Moodle allows you to create quizzes with time limits, similar to what you would do for an in-person exam. These instructions assume that you have already created the quiz and set a time limit that will apply to most of the students in the course. Below, we explain how to add a "User Override" for a particular student (or students) to allow for extended time on a quiz/exam:
- Log in to Moodle at https://moodle.bucknell.edu, and click on the link for your course in the Current Course List module on the right-hand side of the screen.
- Find the topic area where you created the quiz in your course, and click on the link for the quiz:
- On the right-hand side of the screen, in the "Quiz administration" area, click on the "Overrides" link:
-
Moodle has two types of overrides that it combines together: User overrides and Group overrides. If you have a group of students who will consistently need overrides - for example, students who need extra time on exams - you could consider creating a group for those students and then using a Group override so that all the students have the same modified conditions for the exam. In this document, we describe how to add a User override for one or more students. To start that process, To begin to make changes for a particular student, click on that "Add user override" button:
-
Moodle will load the current time settings for the quiz. You will then see a screen that looks somewhat like the following:
-
In the "Override user" search box, begin typing in the name of the first student who needs extended time on the quiz. When the name appears in the box, click on the name to select it.
-
In the "Time limit" area, type in the new limit for the selected student, then scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click on the "Save" button to save the override, or click on the "Save and enter another override" button if you need to extend the limit for more than one student.
-
If you clicked on the "Save and enter another override" button, repeat steps 6 and 7 above to enter the new override, and save that entry as well.
-
After you click on "Save," Moodle will return you to the User override screen, and you will see a summary of the override(s) that you have created. You can use breadcrumb trail at the top of the screen to return to the main page for your course:
