As per the Faculty Handbook (May 2026 revision), emeritus status includes the following:
"E. EMERITI APPOINTMENTS
A faculty member who meets the conditions below will be conferred Emerit status and may use the Emerit title as an acknowledgement of their time in service and their commitment to Bucknell’s students and goals of the University.
In order to be eligible for Emerit status, the individual must have completed at least 10 years of continuous service following the attainment of age 52. Such individuals will be automatically granted Emerit status in all but the rare cases where the individual has been issued a Severe Sanction (as defined in Section III, Article N of the Faculty Handbook). In those rare cases, the individual must petition the Provost’s Office to receive Emerit status.
Emerit faculty receive the use of the Emerit title, retain their current bucknell.edu email address, and receive access to the electronic letterhead of their current department or program The list of benefits does not exclude any other existing implied privileges or other individually negotiated privileges when departing the University.
The University retains the ongoing right to revoke the Emerit title in response to a sanctionable offense. Any retired individual wishing to opt out of the Emerit status must notify the Provost’s Office. "
