How do I find Google Drive files that I don't own?

There are several ways to find files in your Google Drive that are owned or were created by other users.

Shared with me

  1. Open Google Drive
  2. Click on Shared with me in the left navigation
  3. Scroll the list of documents to identify items that you do not own or did not create. 
  4. Identify which files are important to your research or job. Make a copy of the file and as the new owner, begin using that file.

Search

  1. Open Google Drive
  2. In the Search in Drive box at the top of the screen, click the Advanced search icon on the right side of the search box
  3. Change Owner to Not owned by me or Specific person
  4. Identify which files are important to your research or work. Make a copy of the file and as the new owner, begin using that file.
