How do I access Bucknell University Remote Labs (VMware Horizon) through my web browser?

This article will guide you through the steps required to start using Bucknell University Remote Labs (VMware Horizon).  You can access VMware Horizon either through your browser or a client from your own desktop. The first 2 steps apply to any applications on VMware Horizon, while the remaining steps are specific to Minitab.  Minitab is an example of an application you may have access to.

Please note that graphics-intensive applications that are hosted through VMware Horizon (e.g., SolidWorks, ArcGIS) will only be accessible via the desktop client.

  1. Go to https://bu-remotelab.bucknell.edu/, and click on "VMware Horizon HTML Access". If you would like to use your web browser by default to access applications hosted through VMware Horizon, click the checkbox beneath (outlined in orange).

Note: If you check the box by accident or want to install the client after having checked the box, refer to the following article: How do I clear the cache on my browser?. Once you have completed that step, please go back to step 1.
  2. Authenticate with your Bucknell username (e.g., xyz012) and password, and click "Login".
  3. Click on the Minitab application icon.
  4. You are now ready to begin using Minitab!

Note: if you want to open a Minitab file (i.e., with the .MPJ file extension), you will need to authenticate to VMware Horizon (via the above steps), open Minitab, and go to File > Open.

Note: You can save files locally (i.e., to your Desktop), but they will appear hidden. If you save to your server space, however, you will see two discrete items that comprise your Minitab file:
